Do not think that because you have a bunch of hot photos and videos that someone is willing to pay for them! Adult content flows freely on the Internet. You need to have a concept or theme that appeals to a particular niche. You have an advantage when you are an amateur. Your content is exclusive and you participate in your site on a daily basis. Some ideas that you might consider building your site around are found below.

WHAT IF I DON'T WANT TO DO HARDCORE PORN?

It is your choice of what kind of content you feel comfortable with. You can be as succesfull with soft erotic 'Playboy' type photos and videos as with 'Hustler' hardcore. The main thing is that you feel good about what you are doing and have fun doing it.

PHOTOS ALONE ARE NOT ENOUGH!

Surfers are less and less willing to join a site with still photos alone. This means you need to invest in a video camera capable of shooting decent video. Forunately, mini-dv camcorders are fairly inexpensive these days and they shoot excellent videos. Most web cams are lousy at shooting videos so don't even bother with them.

UPDATE YOUR SITE REGULARLY

A static site becomes stale very quickly. No one makes money from a site that never changes. I update your site as often as you send me content, the more the better. Twice a week is good and easy to do. One very big mistake I see is people dumping a large volume of content into their site on day one, leaving it for months and then dropping off because they had no customers. Customers may visit your site 8 to 10 times before deciding to sign up. If your site never changes, they will not come back.

INTERACT WITH YOUR MEMBERS

When you are in a business like this, it is extremely important to stay in contact with your members and surfers that take your sites tour. You do that by answering your emails, keeping a blog/journal and a Twitter account. This is the personality based part I refer to. Doing the blog/journal and Twitter shows the surfer that you are real and participating in the site. This is what differentiates your site from the thousands of sites using paid professional models.

TEXT IS KING!

When you are trying to appeal to surfers and drive traffic to your site, the only way surfers will know what you have to offer the is by your text descriptions. Photos and videos do not speak for themselves because search engines cannot interpret them. You have to describe your photos and videos using keywords that can be found by surfers and search engines. This is especially important in pic post sites like Voyeur Monkey and just as valid when you are Twittering or writing a blog post.

Notice the words in italics, these are examples of keywords your surfers might be searching for. If your descriptions or blog posts lack this level of detail, you will miss out on a ton of potential traffic.

UPDATE CONTENT FOR YOUR WEB SITE

Content continuity is something that many newbie webmasters do not quite fully understand. In some cases webmasters put to much focus on the number of image and video files they have uploaded without much concern for its cohesiveness.

You have to look at update sets as if it were telling your visitors a story. If that story is "Here is a bunch of unrelated porn", you have provided nothing more than they could get from a well crafted Google Image Search.

Your site and subsequent updates should have relevance to the overall site theme as well as continuity.

Create your updates as sets from the same photo/video session. Optimize your resources by creating as much content as you can with the performers (or yourself) that you have available at that time. You may want to consider shooting multiple sets during the same session by changing location, clothing or other aspects of the photo shoot to make it unique.

A reasonable size set would include 40 - 60 images as well as 1 or 2 video clips to go with it.

PHOTOGRAPHY AND VIDEO PRODUCTION

With the advent of low cost, high quality digital cameras and camcorders it is no longer necessary to spend a lot of money to get quality images and videos suitable for Internet work. However there are some things you need to be aware of.

• Do not use a web cam for anything but webcamming. If you are serious about doing a web cam show, you can use your camcorder in place of a cheap web cam and get exceptional quality.
• Forget about the cell phone camera, although you can do spontaneous little snapshot stuff with it. The cell phone camera is not good enough for your site in general.
• Always make sure you have enough light. Many digital cameras will not focus correctly in low light. You can buy a couple of clip-on Painters lights at Home Depot, get a couple of 100 watt Reveal light bulbs and you are good to go. Always light up the area behind the action and use the flash for the front of the action.
• Try not to shoot your videos using a digital camera, get a cheap Panasonic Mini-DV camcorder. You will get world class video with a mini-dv camcorder.
• When you purchase a digital camera, it is not about the megapixels, it is about the lense. Name brand camera have good lenses. Lots of megapixels is good for printing, but overkill for publishing to the web.
